27 Jan Wolverley CE School – Drugs Education
Today we were invited to Woverley CE Secondary school to see and film how they are approaching drug education for young people at the school. As part of a much bigger drug education programme, the school now annually invite Shaun Atwood to speak to year 10 students.
As a former Ecstasy dealer, Shaun gave a really powerful and engaging re-count of how he became a stock-market millionaire in America but who at the same time was an organiser of raves where he mass distributed Ecstasy. On May 16th 2002, a SWAT team knocked his door down and he was sentenced to 9 1/2 years in a notoriously tough American jail.
Shaun was very open and honest about his involvement in drugs resulting in his life spiraling out of control, the people closest to him (including his mum) suffering a lot of pain and hurt and how because of drugs he was placed in some of the most dangerous, unimaginable situations. We were also struck by how Shaun has spent a lot of time trying to understand his personality type and what had led him to make bad decisions.
We’ll be sharing some of the footage in out final #teensaskabout drugs film soon.
