10 Feb Michael Conroy-Harris – The ContinU Trust Wyre Forest & Hagley
in 2014 we were proud to deliver 2000 White Ribbon campaign personal pledges by students and staff to support healthy relationships.
The ContinU Trust of Wyre Forest and Hagley, North West Worcestershire, is a consortium of 8 educational settings working together. For the last three years, we have been increasing our collaborative involvement in the White Ribbon Campaign across the 16 Days of Action (Nov 25th-Dec 10th annually), linking in with Safer Wyre Forest Partnerships, and in 2014 we were proud to deliver 2000 pledges by students and staff to support Healthy Relationships and speak up against abuse where we find it. We also distributed 1,800 white ribbons to teachers, site staff, governors, students and visitors across our partnership. In addition, outside theatre companies have delivered thought-provoking interactive drama workshops around Domestic Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence and schools have delivered assemblies and tutorials on related issues.
Statistics show that our area has a substantial rate of DA and that means we have a number of students who live in homes affected by Domestic Abuse in all its many forms. It is our duty as educators to do all we can to support and empower young people to deal with this.
We have now devised an innovative pilot programme with ‘A Call To Men UK’ to deliver ‘Coaching Healthy & Respectful Masculinity’ programmes to young boys in our schools. This programme looks at the socialisation of negative gender views and tries to help our boys to develop more respectful, positive and non-controlling relationships with girls and young women.
