29 Jan Hilary Hollis – Safer Wyre Forest Project Worker
Safer Wyre Forest is part of the North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership. Safer Wyre Forest partnership has a lot of members which include West Mercia Police, West Mercia Probation and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. We bid for money from the Police and Crime Commissioner to do things that help to tackle issues that affect everyone, like anti social behaviour, burglary, reducing reoffending and preventing violence and abuse.
The last priority, preventing violence and abuse, is where my work with the White Ribbon Campaign comes in. We have been supporting The White Ribbon campaign for several years now and a really important part of making everyone aware of it is to tell students about it and how to spot the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship early on. It may be something that is happening to you or someone you know. People use domestic abuse to control other people, but it’s not always physical, it can be emotional and psychological too and often people don’t want to talk about it, or admit that they are experiencing it.
It’s vital that we get the message out – you are not alone; there is help for you so be brave and don’t be afraid to get it. Putting an end to domestic abuse is our goal – everyone has the right to be and feel safe in their every day lives.
